Description:
Founded in 1987, the school is
housed in a beautiful Grade II
listed building in landscaped
grounds; its sports grounds are
close by. It has always been a co-ed
school and pupils are drawn from a
wide area around Cardiff and
Newport. A Catholic school, it
welcomes pupils of other faiths. Its
aim is to provide its pupils with
high aspirations in their learning
and the values to bring rewarding
careers and mature family
relationships in adult life. It has
very good academic results and a
good range of extra-curricular
activities. A number of sports are
offered, with both county and
national representatives among the
pupil body. There is a great deal of
musical and choral activity of a
very high standard; the school is
the choir school to Cardiff
Metropolitan Cathedral.

Results: GCSE: 58 in Year 11,
gaining at least grade C in an
average of 10 subjects (all
including English, maths, a science,
a humanity and a modern language).
A-levels: 43 in upper sixth, on
average passing 3-4 subjects.
Furtherhigher: All sixth-form
leavers go on to a degree course (5%
after a gap year), 10% to Oxbridge.
On average, 30% go on to courses in
medicine, dentistry & veterinary
science, 15% in science &
engineering, 40% in humanities &
social sciences, 8% in art & design,
8% in vocational subjects.
Sport: Some 25 sports offered.
Pupils may take GCSE and A-level PE,
also swimming, gym, lifesaving,
netball umpiring, sports leadership
exams. A number of pupils represent
their county, Wales and UK at a
variety of sports. Also bronze,
silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh
Award; rock climbing, horse riding,
quad biking on residential course at
Llangrannog; annual ski course;
charity events, voluntary work (eg
in hospitals, special needs
schools). Up to 30 clubs and
activities, eg astronomy, chess,
book clubs, Young Engineers,
science, debating, public speaking.
